Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can assist in treating a wide range of physical and emotional problems. Aromatherapy is a treatment which uses the considered and systematic application of essential oils to improve physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. Essential oils are natural substances derived from plant sources - flowers, herbs, spices and resins. They are the most potent form of a plant’s aromatic and fragrant materials.

Holistic Aromatherapy is an indirect form of therapy. The aim is to help strengthen a person’s individual internal balance, thus enabling them to heal themselves more effectively. Low dosages of oils are used and applied in a gentle manner, usually through massage. This method is more suitable for chronic conditions and for generally enhancing self-esteem and well-being. Clinical Aromatherapy is a more direct form of treatment, in which individual problems are targeted. Clinical Aromatherapy is much more than a fragrant massage. True Aromatherapy treatment involves using prescribed blends of essential oils, hydrosols and carriers as inhalations, compresses, ointments, lotions etc either for customised skin care or health problems. Higher dosages of oils are generally used. Clinical Aromatherapy is most suitable for acute, usually physical problems.

Aromatherapy can help almost everyone. A blend can be made for anything, but here are a few ideas…an aromatherapy treatment gel can be blended for eczema, psoriasis, cold sores or any number of different skin conditions. Sprays can help menopausal hot flushes, prickly heat or itching. Lotions can be helpful for dry skin, bath mixes for easing tension, compress mixes for pain, massage oils for healing scars, ointments for spots. Essential oils blends can be prepared to help ease heavy or painful periods, prevent a migraine or calm an irritable bowel. We can also advise on the use of oils during pregnancy and for children. The possibilities are endless.

An Aromatherapeutic Facial includes cleansing and toning routines, followed by a freshly prepared clay mask. The treatment concludes with a luxurious neck and face massage using a combination of oils precisely blended to meet the client’s individual needs.

Hopi Ear Candling

Hopi Ear Candling, also known as Thermo-Auricular Therapy, originates from the traditional methods used by the Native American Hopi tribe where they were and are effectively used to alleviate head and ear conditions.

Ear Candling is successful in tackling ear, nose and throat problems such as excess/compacted ear wax, headaches, migraines, hay fever, coughs, colds, sinusitis, glue ear and nose and throat congestion. It is also effective with conditions such as Tinnitis, Vertigo and Meniere’s syndrome and is useful when used before and after a flight and when deep sea/scuba diving to help prevent pain due to pressure change as the ear candles balance pressure in the ear area. As the overall treatment is a relaxing and rejuvenating it is also ideal for those feeling stressed or anxious.

The ear candles themselves are hollow linen tubes infused with pure beeswax and honey due to their antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. They can also be infused with essential oils, particularly St. John’s Wort, chamomile and sage. The candles work by the heat causing a ‘chimney effect’, once lit. This results in the slight underpressure causing a vibration that gently massages the eardrum and regulates/balances pressure in the head and ear area which is often described as a soothing, light sensation. The heat also helps to soften earwax, which allows it to be removed by the candles, and to naturally work it’s way out of the ears in the next few days after the treatment. This gentle sucking action and warmth also stimulates blood and lymph circulation and invigorates the immune system and draws impurities out of the ear and clears congestion. Both ears will be worked on to maintain balance. The 45-minute treatment is ended with a lymphatic drain facial massage that will add to the effectiveness of the candles, concentrating on pressure points and stimulating friction strokes. This treatment is not recommended for those with perforated eardrums, grommets, inner cochlear implants or an outer ear infection.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot Stone Massage is based on ancient methods of Indian people, who used the power of warmed stones for their well being. Stone massage therapy has been used in many different cultures for many years. Healers used rocks from the river beds and warmed them either in hot coals or hot water. Placing the hot stones on cloth on the body and arranging them along the energy centres of the body would help to relax the muscles and reduce pain or discomfort, boosting a healing process.

The technique uses warm stones, placed on the client's body and also in the therapist's hands, the heat gently penetrating the skin and muscles, helping the client to relax and de-stress in double quick time. It relaxes the body at its deepest level and is effective in creating harmony and balanced energy flow. The subtle energies of stones introduced into a treatment are known to promote a meditative state and calm. The thermal conduction of the stones brings about local and systemic changes in the body, influencing the energy centres or Chakras, balancing both body and mind. A combination of the unique energies of the stones and universal energy assist the balancing of the body's internal energy flow (chi).

Hot Stone therapy can help in the treatment of the following problems; muscular aches, pains, and strains, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, back pain, and insomnia. It also helps to improve circulation and can help reduce stress, anxiety, tension and depression.

In certain cases cold stones can also be used to help muscular injury and inflammation. Warm stones expand the blood vessels, helping to move blood faster round the body, sedating the nervous system. The application of cold stones stimulates the nervous system by causing the blood vessels to contract and increasing the lymph flow of waste materials round the body.

During a treatment the client lies on a couch or a series of flat hot and cool stones - covered by a thick towel - that trace the spine. The therapist applies oil to the skin and glides the stones across the body’s meridian lines. In some treatments large stones are placed on the body, in the palms of the hands, and coin-sized stones are lightly wedged between the toes.

Indian Head Massage

Indian style head massage is an ancient form of healing and relaxation. A head massage can have the same effect as a whole body massage. The head is the centre of the nervous system and so massage to this area has the effect of relaxing and rejuvenating the whole body.

The technique incorporates massage of the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. Both carrier oils and essential oils are generally used. The oils can strengthen the hair, remove dryness of the scalp, prevent or slow down premature hair loss and help with many scalp disorders. The massage can also be carried out without the use of oils if preferred.

A head massage releases muscle tension and stimulates the circulation. This helps to flush out physical and emotional toxins. It also stretches and mobilises the tissues of the neck and shoulders. The scalp is relaxed and the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid is improved. This can help to relieve headaches and eyestrain and focus concentration.

A treatment usually leaves the recipient with a feeling of calmness, well-being and deep relaxation.

Iridology

Iridology involves the examination of the iris of the eye with a torch and magnifier, and the interpretation of the signs and markings found therein. From this the therapist can then assess the individual’s health status and potential, identifying possible causes and suitable treatment of dis-ease, and facilitating preventative treatment.

Iris analysis can reveal information about the body’s constitutional strengths and weaknesses, areas showing functional imbalance, hyper or hypo-functioning of body organs and systems, acute, chronic or degenerative states, catarrhal states, the site and depth of toxic accumulations, tendencies towards certain conditions - arthritis, diabetes etc., emotional and personality patterns, and the likely causes of symptoms and disease.

The iris reflects what is happening in the body. Imbalances can be identified before a person shows any sign of being ill. However the eye cannot predict the form in which the weakness will manifest. Iridology does not name diseases, show where operations have taken place or identify removal of organs.

Iridology can also act as an extremely useful early warning system. It can alert the Iridologist to the 'potential' a person may have for developing certain diseases and conditions. 'Potential' doesn't necessarily mean that that person will develop those conditions. However, Iridology can be used preventatively in these circumstances. Potential problems can be detected through iris analysis and treated with nutritional medicine, or any of the other therapies, long before they take a strong hold. The individual then has a greater chance of avoiding the problem later in life. Iridology can be further used to chart the progress of the healing process.

A full Iridology assessment will usually involve photographing the patient’s eyes and displaying the results on a computer screen. This enables the patient to view their own irides and gain a better understanding as they are talked through the analysis. Dietary and lifestyle changes will be suggested to support the findings.

Iris analysis is a completely safe, hygienic and non-invasive process. It is the perfect method of diagnosis for people who may be anxious about undertaking other invasive diagnostic tests. Iris diagnosis is also a perfect means of assessing levels of toxicity in the body. I have found it to be the most useful form of diagnosis over all other types of testing, such as allergy tests etc. This is because it tells me exactly what that person's genetic pattern is. This is something that will not change during that person's lifetime

Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional therapy uses food, supplementary nutrients and cleansing procedures to alleviate or prevent chronic health problems. In the hands of a fully qualified therapist, Nutritional medicine is a safe, gentle approach. The therapy is based on scientific research and knowledge and yet takes a holistic view. It supports active biological processes rather than using suppressive methods, and is designed to work from the level of cells and tissues. Nutrition is about keeping your body alive and well by means of food. Like any complex machine it will not work properly unless it receives the right fuel and is properly maintained. Nutritional therapy aims to find the cause of an illness or imbalance, rather than just looking at the symptoms, and to treat the problem using therapeutic diets and supplements.

Modern foods and lifestyles make it hard to have a balanced nutritional intake, yet even minor changes in diet in combination with correct supplements can make major changes to the way a person copes with life. Nutritional therapy will provide an individually tailored diet and supplement plan aimed at restoring your health. This will be designed to correct any nutritional imbalances, to support and strengthen the immune system and all systems and organs of the body which are under stress. Changing your diet alone can have significant healing effects but in many cases supplements are necessary to kick-start the metabolism, correct long-term mineral imbalances, purge the body of toxins and promote the growth of favourable intestinal bacteria.

Nutritional medicine has been shown to be effective for many conditions including:

  • Digestive and Bowel disorders
  • Food intolerances
  • Allergies
  • Skin problems
  • Migraines and headaches

Reiki

Reiki is a form of natural healing. The word Reiki means “universal life energy” and when activated and used for the purposes of healing addresses mind, body and spirit. Reiki is a safe, natural therapy that promotes healing at all levels by the action of gentle nurturing energy radiating from the Reiki practitioner’s hands. Reiki is widely used throughout the world to promote health and personal development. Reiki is a holistic healing approach bringing you gently towards total health for body, mind and spirit. Reiki works by harmonising the mind and emotions and accelerating the healing in the physical body. Through its balancing and strengthening powers Reiki promotes the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki can be used for any illness, on people of any age with absolute safety. It can be combined with other healing practices to accelerate the healing process. Reiki can also increase the intuitive and creative abilities.

Reiki can be used for any illness, on people of any age, in any condition of health, with absolute safety. It can be combined with any other treatments (conventional or alternative) to accelerate the healing process. A Reiki treatment consists of the practitioner placing their hands on the recipient’s body in a pattern designed to give overall balance. The hands are then placed on that part of the body which requires treatment the most. The practitioner simply acts as a channel for this healing energy. Chakra balancing is sometimes incorporated into the standard treatment. During a treatment the recipient remains fully clothed at all times. Each session may cause a totally different reaction dependent on what the person needs at that particular time. The most common experience is one of deep relaxation.

Distant healing can be provided as a follow-up treatment, or for those unable to travel .

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient therapy which dates back many thousands of years and was used by the Egyptians, Chinese and Indians. The Reflexology in use today dates from the 1930s. Reflexology is a natural holistic treatment which treats the whole body . It is a type of foot massage but it may also include hand massage when appropriate. Reflexology uses the fact that there are reflex points in the feet and hands which have a direct link with all parts of the body. Massaging the feet using certain techniques stimulates these reflex points, which in turn stimulate each organ of the body. The therapist can detect the tiny deposits, tensions and imbalances in the feet which cause energy blockages and lead to disease. By gently working on these points the therapist can remove the energy blockages, encouraging the free flow of energy around the whole body. Tensions are eased and circulation and elimination improved. Reflexology helps to restore the body’s natural equilibrium and encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace.

On your first treatment a health consultation is taken to collect medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle and any other relevant information. Treatments are carried out with only the footwear removed. The feet are then worked on with any problem areas being recorded. The patient may experience some discomfort or tenderness in certain reflexes but the overall sensation is generally one of comfort and relaxation. In certain circumstances the hands may be worked on instead. A course of treatments is usually recommended depending on your body’s needs and your specific health concerns.

Colour reflexology utilises the vibrational energies of colour to further treat those reflexes which indicate an imbalance thus providing a more complete and powerful treatment. This is achieved by using a ‘crystal light pen’ to apply particular colour frequencies to the reflex points. If appropriate, overall colour analysis is undertaken and homeopathic colour pills prescribed.

Maternity reflexology takes into account a woman’s special needs during pre-conception, pregnancy and birth.

Reflexology has been successful in relieving many acute and chronic conditions including

  • Digestive problems / IBS
  • Back Pain
  • Menstrual Problems
  • Gynaecological Conditions
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Skin problems
  • Poor circulation
  • Migraine / Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Hypertension
  • Stress
